It has been a while since I have chatted with you all. I hope you are having a great start to the new year.
The older I get the more I don't like anything that disturbs my peace. Messy people... no thank you. Being out too late... I don't think so. Uncomfortable shapewear... side eye. There was a time when I would make myself so uncomfortable in order to ensure that there weren't any lumps or bumps showing when I put on my clothes. Literally, I wouldn't drink a lot of water because I knew it would take me 20 minutes to take it off when I went to the restroom and another 15 to put it back on. At that time I felt like the only way that my body looked presentable or even beautiful is if it curved out at the right places and curved in at the right places.
One day I was going to put on a dress that would "need" shapewear and I just didn't feel like all of the fuss. I didn't feel like being uncomfortable, restricted and dehydrated. Now don't get me wrong I still wear shapewear but I'm less dependent on it. I am reprogramming myself to think that I am beautiful with or without shapewear and that my body looks great because it is my body! My body has carried me through so much. It is strong and resilient. Those are the things that make my body beautiful. I exercise to stay healthy, fit, and strong. I have fitness goals that I would like to achieve but I am determined to appreciate my body where it is in the present moment.
If I wear shapewear now I am wearing it to give me the support I desire. I appreciate the smoothing features that it provides but I don't need it to cut off my air supply in order to fit into societal beauty standards.
My prayer for all of us is that we wear and do whatever makes us happy. If that is shapewear that has you snatched in as if you are wearing a corset then wear it. If it is no shapewear at all, do it. Regardless, you are stunning and I hope you embrace that to the core of your being.
Let's start a conversation about this. Comment below or message me your thoughts. I can't wait to hear from you!
